I stepped into a great tradition of running
excellence in becoming an Impala and I will always be grateful for what
they have done. They have given me something to look forward to after
college. I will always be an Impala.
Teresa McWalters, Impala development athlete, attending Stanford on a
cross country and track scholarship starting Fall 2003, member since 2002.
(from a Dyestat interview)
It's no coincidence that my best years as
a runner came after I joined the Impalas and started benefitting from
the individualized attention along with the workouts. Everyone gets that
same level of attention, whether their goal is to break four hours or
qualify for the Olympic trials

I
like being an Impala because it's a great opportunity to train and compete
with interesting women of varying backgrounds, ages and abilities who
all have the same goal...to train and run at the best of our abilities
and have a great time doing it.
Karen Ribble, 3:12 marathoner, Member since 2000
Nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than
meeting up with my Impala team members for a run. It is a treat to be
welcomed with unequivocal support, enthusiasm, and warmth. This Impala
camaraderie encourages me in my racing goals and also gives me friendships
that will last a lifetime. The California International Marathon held
in December of 2001 is my favorite example of Impala camaraderie and dedication. A group of Impalas traveled
two hours and positioned themselves all along the marathon course in the
freezing rain, enduring 65mph wind gusts, simply to cheer us on. Their
voices and encouragement gave me and my teammates the extra strength and
enthusiasm to focus on the race despite the conditions."

Being a member of the Impala Team has been such
an important part of my post-collegiate running experience. I have built
so many meaningful friendships with such a diverse group of women, as
well as continuing to train in a competitive environment."
Louise Tench, Varsity XC & Track Div.III All-American,

I'd been running with a club that was primarily
social...I loved my club but wanted to get out there and kick butt, and
the Impalas were the only group that had workouts for competitive women.
Right from the start I felt this incredible camaraderie that was very
women-centered. I'd been part of the women's movement in the 60's and
this groups spirit is just as strong. Really, I've never been part of another group that is both so mutually
supportive and demanding.
