We had yet another successful trip around the lake with the team today....
(for context, check out maps and video's of each leg here.)
Leg 1 started on the sandy beach (new course this year), 40F and 4min before 7am (yes, they started 4 min early; too bad for the guy who was in the port-o-potty), Marisa ran strong to start us out...
For leg 2 Jen tore up the half marathon distance, flying up a 6-mile long hill and then coasting the downhill like one bad-ass mother runner!
Next was leg 3 where Jess started at Sand Harbor, cruised through Incline Village, and had a crew of Impalas taking her across the state line and into Kings Beach...
Megan, like in years past, took Leg 4. Also like in years past, our #1 goal was to not lose her before her leg - it was narrowly accomplished. Seriously though, she flew through her leg!
For Leg 5 Ashley took charge, passing three teams including one all women's team (bringing us into 2nd place) and basically killing her leg (figuratively and literally - left hamstring is pretty angry). Post-leg she took her traditional lake ice bath. Brr!
Leg 6 was our secret weapon: Lizzy took charge with a very steep, long, uphill - the Impala support crew strong on this leg, in some cases we had 5 impalas running along side. She also had an amazing downhill into emerald bay, then one last climb. She was rewarded with a half eaten sandwich by the race official after her hand off.
And then came leg 7 - Camille started with a crazy downhill (and a 7 min gap with the leading women's team - Michigan post collegiate runners) then 9 of flat involving a renaissance fair (she tipped her pink bass pro shop trucker hat to a pirate) and dodging lots of Saturday afternoon traffic in south lake Tahoe - she finished on the beach with a champagne shower (as requested and promised)
In the end we finished roughly 5 min behind the Michigan team and had an amazing day with the whole team. Final time was about 8 and a half hours.
Cheers to all,
The Tahoe Crew
